About

Many thoughts and sensations entered John Varriano’s consciousness during his youth. As a boy, he was captivated by bright colors, geometric shapes, and the human form. These intense attractions led to three parallel paths he has journeyed on throughout his life. It was in his mid-twenties that these paths began to converge. He started to experiment with numerous compositions involving interlocking figures.

The artist chose to use bold colors and animated his figures with an intense expression of rhythmic movement. Enormous energy is displayed in this painting, and we can feel the force necessary to propel each figure through space. The figures are reminiscent of acrobats or dancers, so the artist named this painting “Warrior Dance.”

We can sense the movement in space and time and imagine that the group will soon shift into another formation. The slim, muscular figures lend a dynamic quality to the painting.

Varriano believes that creativity and destruction are opposite sides of the same coin. Creativity must always precede the destruction of anything. Something must exist before being destroyed.

Several branches of the Arts exist in this Painting. The physical Art of Dance, the visual Art of Painting, the Art of Structural Design, and the Art of Musical Composition are all present in this work.
